Radovic Amfilohije, the Metropolitan of Montenegro, who has great political influence in Montenegro and was also known as a Serbian nationalist, died of the coronavirus infection he was caught. Though the Archbishop died of the coronavirus, thousands of people attending the funeral kissed the dead body in turn.
Amfilohije played a crucial role in the protests over the controversial "Law on Religious Freedom" over the church in Montenegro, a NATO member and candidate for EU membership, from last December to August this year.
